I am thinking about taking up Kiteboarding / kitesurfing. Suggestions?
I live about 15 minutes from a very windy beach and am thinking about taking up Kite boarding. I am already an experienced snow boarder, wake boarder and water skier.
Does anyone have suggestions on the ideal way to learn to kitesurf without having to spend $500.00 on lessons, and is it realistic to think that I will be able to learn kiteboarding without kitesurfing lessons? Also, can anyone make a suggestion on where to buy my kite gear? I do not want to spend more than $1500.00. Thank you very much.

I don't do it, but I surf in an area where it is real popular, and my son-in-law is into kites. We have watched dozens of guys kite surfin' and it looks cool. I don't know where you live, but there is no way to get away with less that a $2K start up cost in New Jersey or South Carolina. And if you want to try it without lessons, sounds okay, if you have your last will and testament made out. PS, leave my son-in-law your rig.
