Since Stefan Reuther, the founder of the Kitexcite Best Kiteboarding school in Cabarete, began teaching kiteboarding courses and kite surfing lessons, way back in 1999, we've had scores of happy, satisfied kiteboarding students some of which are today's big names in kiteboarding, or who've opened their own kite schools. Some even began businesses and founded successful companies in the kiteboarding niche.

Dear Stefan.

It was unfortunate I didn't get to meet you during this trip.  However I am very grateful and quite touched that you personally contacted me during my stay to introduce yourself and make sure I was taken care of.

I had such a wonderful time staying at Kite Beach Hotel.  You have such an amazing and welcoming staff.  Sometimes it is quite daunting to travel alone as a woman, but your staff quickly set me at ease with their hospitality.

I met Tomas as soon as I arrived and he was such a doll. I could have been content with just sitting on the beach during a windless day, however he sought me out to offer if I'd like to try surfing and to show me around town.  In my opinion he had gone the extra mile to set me at ease, make sure I enjoyed my stay, and even get a taste of the local culture.

Additionally, the Kite School instructors were so super friendly and helpful.  Always there with a great big smile!  Paul, Isaac, and David were great.  But I must say, Papito was the best and I feel extremely lucky to have had him as my instructor.  I usually am a quick learner, however sometimes I doubt my own abilities, and this is what prevents me from improving…the fear of failure.  Papito was simply amazing as he picked up on this and was such a supportive and reassuring instructor.  When I did not feel comfortable with my own abilities to control the kite, he was there to remind me to relax and to just feel the kite.  Further, he would stay with me in the water as I body dragged, until he felt confident that I could do it on my own as he watched from onshore with the radio.  I did not see any other instructors out in the water with any other students, and this I was very impressed by.

In case you haven't heard, on my last day of instruction I had a bit of a mental breakdown as I was not grasping the water start concept as quickly as I'd like.  Papito never lost patience with me … he even gave me a long pep talk while I was on the verge of tears.  Further, he stayed by my side in the water, super dedicated to keep me reassured….although I had him swimming after me from point to point throughout the water.

You have a very talented instructor in Papito – not only is he able to instruct and adjust to his own students, but he understands them on a personal level.  That's what makes him so exceptional.

The experience I had with Kitexcite has been amazing. In all my travels, I've only cried twice leaving a destination, and I am so glad to say that Kite Beach is one of them :)

I hope to see you soon, as I will be planning to return to Kitexcite/Kite Beach Hotel this winter.

Safe travels back to Cabarete, and let's keep in touch!

Best Regards,

Paula

ps.  I'm sorry for the crashed/torn kite!

Just got home from an amazing week of kite boarding with the guys at Kitexcite. I was a beginner, never touched a kite before, but now 4 days later I was doing some basic jumps and having the time of my life. I can't wait to come back to kite beach and tear it up some more!! They use amazing methods to teach you, and it's the best money I've spent on a vacation in a long time.
Thanks Stefan, and thanks to everyone there for all the fun and great experience!

Kitexcite is the best place for learning. The location has daily consistent wind. I had a good time for 3 weeks and I’m thinking to return for some more riding. I recommend this school for anybody that would like to learn with the best. Thanks Stefan and your team for everything.

Having taken kiting lessons at two other schools before I went to Kitexcite, I'm in a position to appreciate just how much better it was to work with Stefan and his crew.

Stefan understood that I already knew the basics – equipment, safety, kite control – so he didn't waste my valuable time: he had me out on the water with a board within 30 minutes. He also understood that I was at a point where I didn't need the most expensive personal training, so he assigned a "supervisor" instead. My supervisor, Flacio, was extremely helpful and eager to please: he made sure all my equipment was ready to go and handled all the grunt work…walking my kite out to the launch point, landing the kite and walking it back again. That way, all my time and energy went to developing my skills, not to wasting my effort. It was sort of like having my own personal kite valet…a much better value than the "training" I got for a couple of days at another Cabarete kite school before I quit in disgust and went to Kitexcite.

Cabarete is a great place to learn. The winds are consistent, the water at Kite Beach is relatively calm because of the off-shore reef and there is plenty of space most days for even a clumsy student to stay out of the way. The side-on-shore wind is perfect for learners.

Another good thing is that Stefan uses Best kite models that are appropriate for beginners. Very easy to re-launch after you crash them in the water. I watched students from other schools using high-aspect-ratio kites that I know from experience are tricky to re-launch, which wastes a lot of time and energy.

A few tips about Cabarete: almost no business down there – lodging, restaurants, etc. – will take credit cards or traveler's checks, so be sure to bring plenty of cash with you. And I recommend staying directly on Kite Beach, so you're only a one-minute walk from the school. You Verizon phone won't work in Cabarete, but AT&T will.

23/02/2010: Kitekurs Cabarete Erfahrungen

"Also Volli, Ich kann dir's sagen.
