Do I need my own gear to learn kiteboarding?

First of all, if you haven't yet done any kiteboarding lessons in a good Kiteboarding school then wait until you do.

There's no need to buy equipment beforehand, as kiteboarding schools have all the equipment you need for learning.

Some kiteboarding schools, (like Kitexcite kite center in Kitebeach Cabarete) are authorized dealers and can give you special deals on kite boarding equipment new- or used kites and boards, when you do a kiteboarding course with them.

Secondly, it depends on how much time you'll be spending on kiteboarding every year.

If you just only kiteboard on a few holidays and travel to places like Cabarete Kite beach, I think it's better you rent kiteboarding equipment. In Kitexcite kite rental we have always the newest and the latest gear in stock. You can switch between different sized boards and kites, depending upon wind conditions and you can try out different board shape and types, if you ride slalum or waves. So this flexibility saves you money on upfront equipment purchase, 50% on any repairs and on transport or insurance fees when carrying loads of kiteboarding gear with you on flights.

However, the kite boarding gear is not insured in Dominican Kiteboarding schools. But it's better our equipment gets damaged than your own, because it's definitely cheaper to have a damage to our equipment than to yours, as we charge only 50% of repair rates since we have our own kite repair service. Boards almost never ever break. Usually when damage occurs the kite is the thing getting damaged, a little rip in the skin like 30cm (1ft) long is usually repaired for less than $30.

With renting from our kiteboarding equipment gear rental pool you save money, because when you want the same flexible convenient service like our kiteboarding rental pool offers you, you'd need to carry with you 1-3 boards and at least 3-5 kiteboarding kites.

However, when travelling to destinations without the excellent infrestructure as Cabarete Kitebeach and Kitexcite Kiteboarding Center have to offer, you'd want your own kite surfing equipment, to make sure you know what kiteboarding gear you have with you, that you are used to it and that it's working.
