How to Launch a Kitesurfing Kite Without a Helper
"How Can I Launch a Kitesurf Kite When I Have No Helper?"
Here's How You Can Launch Your Kite Surfing Kite Without a Helper
There might rise situations where you'll find yourself without a helper on the beach to launch your kitesurfing kite.
This could be because you landed on a distant beach for a rest and now need to return to your original kite beach.
In this kitesurfing tutorial we'll give you a kite self-launch (kitesurfing beach-start) example, using the Nemessis kite.
The Nemessis is a Best Kiteboarding Kite and we love it, use it and only sell Best Kites.
Why? Because they ARE simply the best Kitesurfing kites out there. Full stop.
Anyway, back to our tutorial; your kite can be self-launched from the beach.
Most of the time there's a way to self launch your kite..
Although the Nemesis HP has line deflectors on the strut ends (to ensure that the kite's flying lines do not become entangled in the airframe), when you self-launch your kite you need to make sure that the front bridles (highlighted RED in photo number1, as you see) are placed clear of the kite surfing kite's wingtips prior to sanding down the wingtip.
Next step is to position your fully inflated kiteboarding kite with the kite lines attached at the edge of the wind-window.
Do it so that your flying lines run directly across the wind.
Now place your bar at the opposite edge of the wind window.
In case you don't know the Wind Window term:
A wind window is the area where you can fly your kite. It's 170 degrees in front of you, with the wind at your back (Check for same wind pressure on both ears – usefull thing to have big ears
).
OK, now place sand on the inside of your kiteboard kite.
Sanding the kite behind the 1st strut towards the 2nd strut helps to keep the kitesurf kite flat to the wind until the wingtip has been folded over and secured with more sand.
Fold the wingtip over on the Leading Edge, and sand down the folded wingtip as well.
Before you run back to your bar to launch your kite, wait by the sanded-down kite for a while, so you can ensure you have placed enough sand on the kite to hold it down.
Return to your bar, which you positioned across the wind, on the opposite side of the wind window (where you placed your kite).
Hook into the chickenloop (This is the hook on the bar you hook onto), and take a moment's time to check your kite lines one last time.
With the kitesurfing bar held firmly in your hands, position the bar at a 50% depower position.
Next, pull the top of the bar towards you and step backwards.
Pulling the bar back towards you and stepping backwards will flick the sand off the wingtip, releasing the kite and allowing it to self launch.
When doing this You need space, so don't do a self launch (kitesurfing beach-start) on a small beach.
You never know if the kite launches up a bit sideways, to the front or a bit towards the back the wind window.
Why risk your kite?
All in all, as you see, you can now perform a kiteboarding self-launch yourself.
However, if it is possible to have someone experienced assist you in launching your kite it is always a preferred option.
