Kiteboarding Package or a Cat-in-Box?

Some people ask "Should I get package deal or not, what are the pros and cons of getting a kiteboarding package?"

Good question. Everyone wants to save money, fair enough.
So let's give you some more good advice so you don't buy a cat in a box!

What is a kiteboarding package at all?

A kiteboarding package is usually 3 days of kitesurfing lessons, 2-3 days kite surfing supervision and then kiteboarding equipment usage, depending on how many days your vacation is for – most people have 4 days to 2 weeks.

Some kiteboarding packages include equipment sale or hotel accomodation in the package.

This however is the kind of kiteboarding package I'd not recommend to my clients. Why? Because

You see, for the short run, it makes more business sense for the kiteboarding school to get people paying for a kiteboarding package deal, so the business has a secure income, wind or no wind.

However, I preffer thinking for the long run, and havinge happy kitesurfing customers, who send me their friends and family and who are repeat-customers themselves, because they know Kitexcite does not rip them off! 

Look, in 2008 70% of our kitesurfing business were return customers and referrals from happy customers.
So we must be doing something right! 

With over 10 years experience running my kiteboarding school (I was one of the first in this sport and had opened the first kiteboarding school in the Caribbean), I would not recommend such a kitesurfing package.

The Cons of the Standard Kiteboarding Package  

The reasons I do not recommend a full blown package deal for kiteboarding are simply because You never know:

1. How many windy days you'll have, or if it's too windy to learn or too gusty etc.
   In some kitesurfing locations wind can change directions and be unfavorable all of the sudden.
2. How long it takes you to progress from one level to the next, or from supervision to rental stage. 

In addition, you might not be sure yet whether you wish to buy kiteboarding equipment or just keep renting some for a while. 

So I rather not pressure you into a buying decision or stick you with a kiteboarding kite you may not like…

So What Kind of Kitesurfing Package is Cool to Get?

It is much better you try out different types of kites and equipment but not many other schools offer a good variety of kiteboarding gear you could test. Some only have old kitesurfing equipment, especially they give you old models of kiteboarding kites when you take kitesurfing lessons or rent. So that makes it hard to test out the latest technology in kites.

Recent new kites are so much easier to handle and make kitesurfing so much more fun and easier to learn.
