You take a long look at the beach, coconut tree swaying, a good breeze blowing , the fine white powder that you stand upon does not burn your feet even though its 12 noon in the middle of summer. The women that walk past you are stunning. Norwegians, Swedes, Filipinas, Brazilians, are here working on their tans and having a great time. Off in the distance, you see a squadron of kites propelling kiteboarders higher and higher into the air.

Welcome to Boracay – a kiteboarding paradise.

It was about four years ago, when a few Germans discovered the other side of this pleasure island. By other side, we mean the extreme side of Boracay. The other beach that no one really goes to — until of late. Kiteboarders love this side of Boracay as the winds are true howlers. 15-20 nautical miles winds plus huge waves make it an exhilarating experience for kiteboarders.

Now, Boracay has its own international tournament, the Boracay Monsoon Challenge, which was won by German Kathrin Borgwardt. Other activities in the summer include; the Russian Kiteboarding camp to be followed by a Swedish Kiteboarding camp. Rumors are in the air that these two nations are planning a one-on-one kiteboarding showdown next year 2009.

As for schools, there are several schools like Hangin (which means wind in tagalong), and the Boracay kiteboarding school. Price ranges on how many lessons you want to take and how many days you are staying. Accommodations in Boracay are from 10 USD at a backpacker type inn to 15 0USD at a five star hotel. Meals are cheaper by 50% in the market.

All in all, kiteboarding in Boracay is a sunrise sport. It will surely get its due attention from the world as the locals have all year to practice the sport.
