Should You Buy a New or a Secondhand Kiteboarding Kite?

"What's best kite surfing kite for me and how to choose between used second hand kites or new kiteboarding kites?"

Basically your kite surfing kite purchase decision depends upon:
1. Your budget for buying one or more kiteboard kites
2. How frequently you'll be using your kiteboarding kite
3. In which conditions you'll be using your kite

Ok, so stick with me now, while I try to help you better understand pros and cons of new kite gear vs. used kiteboarding gear…

Point number 1. Your Budget.
If your budget is low, you basically have no options but to get a used kite.

Another thing for those of you who are stapped for cash is, that as a beginner a second hand kite you'd use in no-sun conditions is still a good way to catch 2 birds in one go; Think off it this way, if you save between 40-90% on the price of a new kite, and you'll probably need 2 kites, then you could save a lot of money which you can put towards sponsoring your kiteboarding lessons or maybe even your entire fun Caribbean kitesurfing kiteboarding vacation here in Kite Beach Cabarete!

Used equipment is cheaper, depending how old it is and the condition of kite.

Why Choose the Dominican Republic for Your Holiday Destination?

No tropical island more beautiful in the world…

Beautiful Dominican Republic

Beautiful Dominican Republic – click to enlarge

When Christopher Columbus arrived on the Dominican Republic's shores in 1492, he proclaimed, "There is no island that is more beautiful in the world".

For visitors of the country today, the Dominican Republic definitely represents just that. It is simply a tropical island paradise to discover – golden sandy beaches, crystal clear turquoise waters, mysterious lush valleys, majestic tall mountains and wonderfully friendly people.

Any time is a good time to visit the Dominican Republic because of its warm and generally sunny climate all year round. Some call the weather here 'the endless summer'.

The busiest tourism season in the Dominican Republic runs from December through April, where many North Americans and Europeans visit to get a warm, tropical break from the cold temperatures in their home countries.

The next busiest period is in the summer months, June through September, when the majority of visitors are made up of Europeans visiting for their long summer vacations.

Generally, the busier the season, the more in advance you should begin to plan your visit in order to secure your flight and accommodations of choice.

Accommodation rates fluctuate slightly (are generally higher) during the busier tourism months, but almost all other costs, such as food & beverages, excursions, sporting activities, etc., remain constant year-round.

Although many people visit the Dominican Republic for a relaxing, beautiful tropical island beach vacation, this prime Caribbean holiday destination spot offers an incredible variety of sports and adventure opportunities – mountain biking, diving, windsurfing, kiteboarding, surfing, canyoning, golfing, and fishing – to name a few.

The municipality of Petaloudes comprises the villages of Kremasti, Paradisi and Theologos. The inland communities Pastida. Maritsa and Damatria and the unique valley known as Petaloudes. In ancient times this region was the southernmost extent of the city-state of lalisos. Byzantine churches and monasteries were all constructed in the region. The area still has a traditional rural character.

Even though this is combined with a remarkable growth in the tourist sector. based on the hospitality of the inhabitants and the natural beauty of the district. Jasper Goodwin asked:

Kiteboarding is a great adventure sport where a lot of enthusiasm, zeal and stamina are required. However, it also needs quite a bit of kitesurfing equipment to play it safe and enjoying the activity and so are specified below.

? You must always have the Impact Vests when you are kiteboarding because they are quite a necessity.

? Kites are obviously the key items in kiteboarding. There are many sparingly used kites that come with a warranty that guarantees against problems such as failures.

? You will also need kiteboarding travel bags and accessory backpacks because you will need to take the equipment to the site for kiteboarding.

? The Twin Tip, the Directional or the Hybrid directional and the Wake style are the three different styles in which the kiteboards are available. There are two sections in the Directional variety – the front and the back and they are used for direction, but in the Twin Tip type, there are no such sections and they can thus be steered to any direction, and that too without jibing. Wake style boards can on the other hand go either to the front or the back because they are dual directional kiteboards.

? Also essential for the sport is kitesurfing equipment that includes foot straps, pads and fins.

? Trainer Kites often prove helpful for beginners that have not yet mastered the skills of kiteboarding. The fact is that, those who are beginners need to give as much as 80% of the effort to control the kite because the art of controlling the power source which is the kite needs to be learned.

? Wet suits are needed for keeping the person protected against the chill.

? Another important gear is the harnesses which includes harness spreader bars, nitrous shorts, harness knives, waist harness and seat harness offering you the much needed security and pleasure.

? There are also many types of Kiteboarding Power Kites like the HQ Montana 5.0, the HQ Rush 250 and the HQ Beamer II TSR 3.6.

? The Landboards are great because they offer you new ways in which you can leverage the kite's power and the board ride.

? Instructional DVDs are not absolute necessities but in most cases a learner of the sport find them most essential because the person is able to learn the sport quickly by going through them.

Your safety should always be of primary importance because if you are not secured, how can you enjoy yourself and this is why you must never compromise on the kitesurfing equipment. So go ahead and get the best equipment, remain safe and you will surely enjoy the sport. If you are a thrill seeker, you will surely have a great time with the adventure sport of kiteboarding. In the earlier days kiteboarding was popular only in the US, but not anymore – now you will find kiteboarders almost everywhere in the world.

Thomas asked:

Kitesurfing also know as kiteboarding is one of the most exciting water sports in the world, it incorporates aspects from windsurfing, wakeboarding, snowboarding, paragliding and power kite flying.

Large kites are used to power a rider along the surface of the water on a board. The wind is used to power the kites and although the name suggests it, kitesurfing does not need waves, many riders prefer flat water. Kitesurfing has many different aspects whether it is chilling out and cruising up and down during your weekend off, going out and practicing your new freestyle trick for the next competition, going out in strong winds and doing huge jumps or riding the waves, there is something to suit all who enjoy it.

The sport originally started out when power kite flyers decided they would like to have some fun on the water with their kites amongst the wind surfers. At this stage there were no kitesurf specific boards so the early pioneers used either surfboards or wakeboards. Since then the sport has evolved and now specific kites and boards are manufactured.

The kites that are used now have inflatable sections to hold their shape as well as allowing them to float. Due to there being no rigid structure in the kites they can be packed up very small, even the largest kites at 16m+ can fit into a rucksack. The kites are different to power kites used on the land as they have just one skin on the canopy, the inflatable tubes provide the shape of the aerofoil similar to an aeroplane wing. The kites are steered around the sky using a bar which can also alter the power; the bar is attached to the kite using 4 or 5 very strong lines, made from dyneema and often with a breaking strain of over 500kg each! Two of the flying lines are attached to the ends of the bar and the others run through the centre of the bar to a harness worn by the rider. By moving the bar along these lines running through the bar the angle of attack of the kit is altered which then altered the kite's power. The larger the angle of attack, the more of the canopy of the kite is shown to the wind and the more powerful it is, the smaller the angle of attack the less power the kite has. When the bar is pulled in close the kites power increases and when pushed away it decreases, this is one of the big changes with kites as the sport has evolved as originally there was not adjustment.

Since 2006 the kite design has change drastically the kites are far, far safer due to the ability to push the bar away and reduce their power, when the bar it totally let go the kite will fall out of the sky with no power at all waiting for you to re-launch it, which due to the change in the design of the newer kite is extremely easy. Having this ease of use has enabled the sport to become a lot more accessible in recent years and the popularity of the sport has rocketed. The shape of the boards has evolved with the new kites adding to the user friendliness and quick learning curve.

Kitesurfing organisations have grown all over the world with many countries now having their own governing body assisting with the club, competition, training and kitesurf schools network.

Tricia Oliver asked:

In the world of kiteboards, there are also organizations and groups. Of course, this is important so that there would be order and that people who are into the sport would be able to have people with the same interest to interact with. Being part of an organization or a group can be really helpful for people. And this is something that has also been happening when it comes to the sport of kiteboarding.

The Professional Kiteboard Riders Association is one of those groups and it is also known as PKRA. Another group is the International Kiteboarding Association and it is called as IKA for short. And several weeks back, they have worked together and had worked in an agreement. They have agreed to work and cooperate with each other and that has been done immediately. This is really good so much so that any work that needs to be done in any event or in anything regarding the sport can be done even better with more people in it.

The PKRA has already organized an event just right after the agreement it had with the IKA. And the event was the PKRA KiteMasters Portimao. This event was held in Portugal and with that, the IKA has also had its share in the workings and in joining it as well. So all in all, they both had work and they also both had fun doing something for the sport that they love.

An agreement can be something done verbally by two parties but in the case of the PKRA and the IKA, they had both signed an agreement so everything is in black and white. Of course there were negotiations between the two groups and there were some top people who were involved in this. For the PKRA, it was their tour manager who became the lead person. This was Mauricio Toscano. For the IKA, it was Markus Schwendtner who serves as the group’s executive secretary.

With the two groups working together, those who are part of the organizations can benefit more. If there would be issues with kiteboarding equipment needed or maybe kiteboarding kitesurf items that need to be prepared, both organizations can work on that to speed things up. Both groups are more than happy with the arrangements and with the cooperation. Both are even positive that the whole thing will work out real well to create wonderful events that kiteboarders will surely love.

Neil Herring asked:

The basic concept of a kitesurf board consists of a laminated wood core which is more preferred than a PVC foam core with a fair amount of flex built into it. Some kiteboards are made with laminated wood cores while Herex is used in non-critical sections to make it lightweight. The rocker line is shaped in a specific way to broaden the curvature towards the tips. With the swank concave underside, foot straps and a carbon fiber sheath to act as protective layer, they are made good looking and useful. These boards are constructed with moderate amount of flex suitable for extremely aggressive riders and they come in three sizes of 125 cm x 38 cm; 128.5 cm x 40 cm and 133.5 cm x 40.5 cm.

Another kind of board has to be mentioned in this article. The basic layout is done with lamination of wooden pith and they are concave, have changeless rocker, which is worked up in fiber glass and with a 3 D rear side. They are referred to as Super Flex, and they provide a comfortable ride, and a feeling of perfect balance to the rider. Since, these boards can also track the upwind, they have become very popular as well and are available in three separate sizes. The Ripper is 132 cm x 38.5 cm, the Soul ATV sizes up to 133 cm x 40 cm and the Fakie is 135 cm x 41.5 cm.

The users can make a selection from yet one more kitesurf board, which is appropriate for light wind conditions. Prepared with Carbon Pro, it has a squared finish and the rails are on the straight side. It is designed with a straight backside and a solid rocker line to sail through those conditions when the wind is light. This is a good option for still water surfaces as well because by using them, the person does not need to put in much effort and skill.

There are several brands of boards that include the Slingshot, Cabrina, Spleene and North Kiteboarding, and many of them are known for their superb functional capabilities and fine workmanship. What you need to do is select the board that fits you the best because many of them come with unique special features.

If you desire to have a great time adventure sporting, the first thing you should be doing is getting a good quality kitesurf board because you must always ensure your safety as well. Besides ensuring that your experience of kiteboarding leaves you completely satisfied, the right equipment will also see to it that you play well and learn fast.
